Christmas Lights and Shopping event Wednesday 4th December.

Published: 05 December 2024

The beautiful Christmas tree lights on the Buttermarket were switched on by Cllr Pauline Phillips, our Mayor, and radio York DJ Georgy Spanswick at the start of the late night shopping event on Wednesday.

There was a very festive atmosphere with Christmas carol singing, delicious food, mulled wine and mince pies to get everyone who attended in the Christmas spirit. The weather held off for most of the evening and there was a chance to get some gift shopping completed whilst enjoying a festive evening.

After the Christmas lights were switched on the mayor and Georgey also awarded a prize to the shop window with the best festive window display. The theme this year was Santa's workshop and the windows looked great, with a difficult choice for the judges to pick out just one winning display.

Eventually after much deliberation, this year the prestigious first prize and trophy was awarded to the Pharmacy on Horsefair. Everyone at the pharmacy was delighted to have won the cup and to have their display awarded first prize from amongst all the windows of the shops entering the competition. It was a festive, fun and successful night to welcome in a season of hope and good cheer for all in Boroughbridge. Season's greetings!!
