Beware of a new Scam.

Published: 21 January 2026

A lady in her 70’s received a phone call from someone alleging that her bank/credit cards needed cleaning. They likened the service to a protective wallet (faraday) for her cards. It would appear they kept her on the phone and sent “taxi” to her address to collect her bank cards. They were going to “clean” her cards and return them to her. The victim did not give the driver her cards and her daughter subsequently reported the incident to the police.

Please be aware of this potential new scam. Do not answer any calls from numbers unknown to you. Do not engage in conversation with any persons you don't know, simple end the call. Report anything that makes you feel unsure or uncomfortable on 101.

People in the UK lost £1.2bn to fraud in 2022, the equivalent of £2,300 every minute, according to bank industry group UK Finance. It said around three million scams took place, with frauds involving payment cards being the most common.
