Rubbish, Waste, Recycling

The government has set all councils strict targets to recycle more rubbish. The aim of the Waste Philosphy is to meet and then exceed these targets for recycling and reducing rubbish production.  Click to view the Harrogate Borough Council website for more information

Boroughbridge Amenity Skips
 
Amenity skips will be available in Back Lane car park on the second Saturday of every month from 9am to 1pm.
 
Before you Recycle consider Freecycle
 
The worldwide Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
Freecycle groups match people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them. The goal is to keep usable items out of landfills. By using what we already have on this earth, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods, and lessen the impact on the earth. Another benefit of using Freecycle is that it encourages us to get rid of junk that we no longer need and promote community involvement in the process.
We have two Freecycle groups in our area, one in Ripon and one in Harrogate. For more information, select the following links:
 
 
 
 
Recycling Centres
Throughout the Harrogate district there are over 100 mini-recycling centres which are located at village halls, public houses, schools and other sites, including Back Lane car park and Morrisons car park in Boroughbridge. Domestic Waste

Bulky Waste Articles
 
Harrogate Borough Council offers a chargeable collection service for bulky items of furniture from domestic properties. We can collect a maximum of two bulky domestic articles such as a bed or cooker.The items should be collected within 10 working days (except on Bank Holidays) by your normal refuse collectors. Fridges and Freezers
 
To further the Harrogate Borough Council's Environmental Policy and to assist in the limitation of damage to the ozone layer, the Council offers a chargable service for the collection of domestic refrigeration appliances.  Click to visit the Harrogate Borough Council website for more information,  including costs.
 
Kerbside Recycling
 
There are two kerbside recycling schemes covers 56,000 properties in the Harrogate district (including Boroughbridge) providing them with a multi-material black box and blue bag.  Click to visit the Harrogate Borough Council website for more information.
 
Garden Waste Sack Service
 
If you have small amounts of garden waste (not large tree cuttings, soil or rubble) Harrogate Borough Council offers a service for its removal. At this time waste is taken for landfill. Click to visit the Harrogate Borough Council website for more information.
 
Tips
 
There are two tips in the District: Wetherby Road, Harrogate and Dallamires Lane, Ripon. They are run by North Yorkshire County Council and residents can take their domestic waste for disposal and recycling. Click to visit the Harrogate Borough Council website for more. information
