Community Care
Set up in the mid 1990s, Boroughbridge and District Community Care or Communicare as it’s known locally, comes under the umbrella organisation, Ripon Council
for Voluntary Service. It’s main aim is to help all sections of the local population
(6 mile radius) with services such as a weekly lunch club for retired people,
‘Home from Hospital’ and ‘Visiting Warden’ schemes and outings using it’s own
fully equipped mini bus. For reasonable fees, Communicare can also help individuals
needing transport to and from hospital for appointments or to visit sick relatives
and to visit other local amenities if they are unable to access public transport.
All Communicare’s services are operated using a dedicated team of willing and
trained volunteers, headed up by a permanent Project Worker, David Allon, who
is employed by Ripon CVS. We are always in need of new volunteers, especially
those who are able to train to drive our mini bus.
Some money comes to us from government grants, but not enough to run all of our
services. Our fund-raising activities include an annual raffle which is held in
August / September and a ‘Christmas Tree Festival’ held in December. Any help
with our fund raising or monetary donations is always very welcome.
If you feel that you are in need of our services, want to volunteer, or require
further information about what Communicare can offer, please telephone David Allon
on telephone 01423 324504.
