Aldborough Gate Project

Aldborough Gate – Sporting Excellence in Boroughbridge!

Aldborough Gate is an exciting project which will bring first class sporting facilities to Boroughbridge in the near future. Since the idea of permanent, community owned facilities were first mooted in 1990, a massive amount of work has been done by many dedicated individuals all with the common belief that Boroughbridge and its residents deserve better sporting facilities. Now, we are proud to announce that we are in possession of a 16 acre site at Aldborough Gate, purchased with the kind assistance of Boroughbridge Town Council. For the first time, this will put “ownership” of sporting land with the people who will use it.

The development is being managed by the Boroughbridge Community Association, a registered charity. On the current plans, the site will encompass a number of pitches for both junior and senior football, but we have spare capacity to welcome other field based sports to the venue. Perhaps you think we should have rugby played in Boroughbridge? Well, progress is being made to bring the “oval ball” game to town but help is needed to make it happen. We certainly have the perfect venue lined up if you share this view, or indeed believe that other sports should be with us. If you want to put a view to us, contact us using the links below.

Currently we are looking at four team changing rooms with full facilities plus a number of smaller rooms for officials’ changing. However we will also have a large multifunction and education suite, which will give the ability for the centre to be used for more than just after match gatherings. It is hoped that we can attract other non-sporting groups to use the facilities during the week when otherwise the site would be quiet. If your group needs a meeting venue, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you in our plans.

Building should start on the site in the very near future, but much still needs to be done. We have funding secured from many sources, including the Football Foundation and numerous environmental bodies. It must be stated though that we still require further funds to ensure that we can complete the scheme to its’ full potential. Maybe your business could benefit from being a corporate backer of our scheme, with the enhanced profile that would give you in the town?  We are proud to be able to say that we have the full backing of both Boroughbridge Town Council and Harrogate Borough Council who are both as committed to seeing this project realised as are the members of the Association, but we need the people of our town to make it a truly community facility.

If you feel you can help either physically, mentally or financially, please get in touch. Or if you just want to know more, or see our detailed plans, don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you
